The past few years have been intense for us--is that true for you, too?
We've encountered death and divorce and other major life events, all against the backdrop of the global pandemic. We are tired. We are ready to take a break. We’re feeling ready to stretch; ready to take stock of what we left behind and what we’re still carrying; ready to touch new earth and dip our toes in ancient water. We’re ready to sing and light candles and find safety in other humans. We’re ready to dance in moonlight and to smile at hummingbirds and take naps while we shelter from afternoon rain. Ready to splash in waterfalls and gaze at mountains. We’re ready to have an adventure together.
We believe the landscape of this place—the Caribbean ocean, the velvety jungles, the gentle climate --resonates with exploration and connection.
Expect that on this trip you will make friends and feel held by the people who travel with you. Expect to feel lighter. Expect feel more like yourself. Expect to feel new. Expect to have a real adventure and to come home with stories to share.
Costa Rica: January 1 – January 8 What will we do in Costa Rica? We’ll spend our time in Costa Rica at Tierra del Sueños Retreat and Wellness Center. The beach and jungle will be right at our door; we expect to spend plenty of time taking it easy and soaking up the Costa Rica experience.
Sarah and Lindsey will have daily program offerings designed to help you deeply rest, connect with your traveling friends, and unlock your spirit of play. You might recognize offerings from the Work that Reconnects, animal flow, the five rhythms or other modalities. We want to move in this trip with a spirit of ease, and we are looking to facilitate a group experience of connection.
A primary part of our programming is that we spend time getting to know you and love you. We want to walk with you on the beach and reflect back to you all the wonderful things we already believe about you. We want to giggle and play and hear your poetry and look at pictures of your crazy family. We want to be brave together.
Will I be expected to meditate or to do yoga or to cry? You will not be expected to meditate or do yoga, although you’re absolutely welcome to and it’s a great setting for it. The intention of this retreat is that you rest, play and connect as YOU, not as some evolved version of you who is perfectly zen and eats only organic and somehow stays hydrated all the time. When we say we want to relax, we mean it; we are here to facilitate your adventure, and to process what comes up.
We’ll be honest with you though–most of us are going to cry, because that’s what often happens when we actually allow ourselves to rest. But don’t worry–we know how to mix in all the laughter and silliness you need.
How many people will be on the trip? We need a minimum of 12 people to sign up for the trip to make it happen. Our total group size will be no more than 20 people.
What does the trip cost? The cost of this trip is $1,750.
A nonrefundable $500 deposit is due by September 1; this secures your place in the trip. The remaining $1250 must be paid in full by November 1.
The cost covers your accommodation in a double room at Tierra del Sueños Wellness Center (single rooms available for an additional $300), as well as three vegetarian meals per day (delicious and made with local ingredients), and programming with Lindsey and Sarah for the week.
Tierra del Sueños means dreamland, and it's a dreamy setting. Simple Caribbean bungalows are a short walk from a beautiful beach. You are responsible for your flight to San Jose*, transportation to Tierra del Sueños, travel insurance (we require that you have some) and anything else you need for the trip. We recommend that you fly into San Jose on December 31st.
There will be plenty of space for relaxation and things to explore without booking additional activities, but if there is something you’re really wanting to experience in Costa Rica, activities can be booked through Tierra del Sueños at additional cost. Here is a list of possible activities:
River Rafting Surf Lessons Sweat Lodge Snorkeling in Cahuita National Park Zip Lining Kayak Experience Punta Uva Hiking in Cahuita National Park Gandoca Manzanillo Rainforest Hike Horseback Riding Bird Watching Jungle Night Hike
The cost of these activities is between $40-$90. If there’s something you see on this list that you really want to do, let us know! We’ll be shaping the program around the spirit of our participants.
*Arriving on January 1 and departing on January 8. You are welcome to extend your trip in either direction; our program and group travel arrangements will extend to these dates.
**Tierra de Sueños is about 150 miles from the San Jose Airport. We will help arrange transportation, but you are responsible for the cost. The cost of transportation ranges from $15 for a local bus up to $100 to raft down a river (what?!) to $150 to take a small flight.
Who are Lindsey and Sarah? Lindsey Mullen and Sarah Gillis are the trip leaders.
Lindsey loves international travel as a means to unlocking our inner adventurer and shaking off stale energy and habits. She is a birth doula and a freelance priestess; she is there to see the sacred in you and in what you are bringing to birth in the world. She loves to be in your corner, especially when you find yourself squared up with an absurd life situation that you have created for yourself. You can count on her to laugh and cry and scream with you all in the same day. This is her fifth time organizing a group international trip. You can read more of Lindsey's biography here.
Sarah has a deep passion for international travel, healing and learning through experience. She is a birth doula and a free spirit; she leads a variety of embodied practices (lately she's been into animal flow). Sarah has a gift for asking brave questions and finding deep joy, and a heart for helping people move toward their big dreams and deep desires. She is a space holder, a traveler, and a mama to four children. She would love to cheer you on and squeeze your hand just before you leap into anything and everything that scares you.
