Cost: $1750
What’s included in the $1750?
The cost covers your accommodation in a double room at Tierra del Sueños Wellness Center (single rooms available for additional $300 charge). Tierra del Sueños means dreamland, and it's a dreamy setting. Caribbean bungalows are a short walk from a beautiful beach, just at the edge of the jungle, and the beach community of Playa Chiquita. This also covers three vegetarian meals per day (made with local ingredients), group excursions, programming with Lindsey and Sarah for the week.
What am I responsible for?
You are responsible for your flight to San José, transportation to Tierra del Sueños, group travel insurance (booked through us at additional cost), incidentals, and anything else you need for the trip.
We require that you purchase group travel insurance with our group. The cost will be no more than $150, and will include a full refund in case of travel restrictions due to the pandemic, in addition to other circumstances. This is a separate, additional charge. We will send policy documents and purchase the group trip insurance once all the trip spots are filled. The cost is variable depending on our group size and when we purchase the insurance.

What kind of programming will y’all be providing?
Sarah and Lindsey will have daily program offerings designed to help you rest, connect with your traveling friends, connect with yourself, and unlock your spirit of play. You might recognize offerings from the Work that Reconnects, animal flow, the five rhythms or other modalities. You might find yourself at the center of group singing or an impromptu dance party. We intend to move in this trip with a spirit of ease; no part of the program is mandatory and we expect that everyone will participate some and sit some parts out.
Play, rest, and connection are essential components to this trip. We believe that for any of these elements to be experienced, the other two must be supported.
What additional excursions are available?
You can have a totally satisfying, playful adventure with no additional excursions, so don’t feel like these are necessary, but, if you WANT an additional experience in Costa Rica, here are some options:
River Rafting
Surf Lessons
Ayahuasca Ceremony
Sweat Lodge
Snorkeling in Cahuita National Park
Zip Lining
Kayak Experience Punta Uva
Hiking in Cahuita National Park
Gandoca Manzanillo Rainforest Hike
Horseback Riding
Bird Watching
Jungle Night Hike
More details about some of these excursions are available here. Please contact us to book.
The cost of these activities is between $40-$90. If there’s something you see on this list that sparks your interest, let us know soon so we can book it. We’ll be shaping the program around the spirit of our participants
I’m thinking of signing up for this trip alone. Will I be able to make friends?
Bringing a friend along with you is a great way to feel secure with a travel buddy, but even if you come alone, you will leave with friends. Here’s a quote from a participant in a previous Wild Ground international trip:
“I went in thinking that I would stay to myself and just enjoy the places that we got to visit. I came out with new friends and the feeling of a family. Some of the best moments were after dinner when we just talked about the day. I am excited to visit more places with Wild Ground in the future.”
We expect that our participants will be a range of ages (our last trip ranged from folks in their 20s to folks in their 60s!) and backgrounds. Part of our program is creating a vibe that helps everyone to feel connected to one another.
When do I have to pay?
You can write or email us to confirm sign up and we will hold your space until September 30. After September 30 a $500 payment is due to secure your space.
The remainder is due by November 15th.
I’m in. How do I sign up?
First step: throw yourself a one minute dance party.
Second step: Email [email protected] with the subject line “I’m in.”
Third Step: We throw a one minute dance party, too, cause we’re excited to hang out with you.
Final step: Pay your $500 deposit to be 100% confirmed on the trip. (Details Below)
How do I make my payments?
You can make your deposit via check to Wild Ground, mailed to 210 Taylor Bottoms Blountsville, AL 35031, online at this link, or through Venmo to @dearlindseyjayne. To avoid a 2.9% online processing fees, pay via check or venmo.
What else will I need to submit?
Once you have made your initial deposit, we ask that you submit:
A copy of your passport
All of your flight details
A list of emergency contacts
A Signed Liability Release Form
A copy of your health insurance card
We recommend that you enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program with the US State Department.
Do I need a travel visa?
No travel VISA is necessary to travel to Costa Rica for less than 90 days.
Where should I buy my plane ticket?
You are responsible for your arrival to and departure from San José so it’s entirely up to you. Please plan to arrive in San José no later than 3PM on January 2nd to make sure we can get you to the retreat center that same day.
OPTIONAL: An optional add on is to arrive in San José December 31-January 2nd and then take a shuttle from the airport to Tierra del Sueños on January 2nd. Sarah and Lindsey will be staying at the Adventure Inn Hotel in San José. We will not provide programming or meals at this time, but we will be happy to help you book your stay and meet you there. The cost of the Adventure Inn Hotel is about $120/night.
What currency should I plan to bring?
The local currency is Colones; however, US dollars cash can be used in Costa Rica to pay for most things related to tourism. In Puerto Viejo there are banks and a few ATMs. Most tour operators and small businesses only accept cash so it’s wise to have some with you. Tours are often priced in US dollars.
Cash is also great for tipping. We do not apply an automatic gratuity but you will see this used across the restaurants in the area. Tipping in Costa Rica is not required, but very appreciated and our staff are grateful to receive gratuities. We do have a gratuity box onsite if you would like to leave something for the staff to share.
Exchanging currency at the airport will be very costly, check with your bank before you leave your home country to bring some US cash or Colones with you.
Can I use my credit card?
If you are planning to use your credit card, please inform your bank that you will be travelling and using your credit card outside the US/Canada/Europe. Often banks will shut down credit card payments outside the US if not informed.
Credit card acceptance varies widely. Taxis, Tuk Tuks, smaller restaurants/stores and some tour companies will only take cash. Many larger companies are set up to take credit card which will also include a 11-13% Costa Rican Sales Taxes.
Common credit cards that are accepted are VISA and Mastercard. Very few places take American Express or other credit cards.
Will I be able to use my cell phone?
You will have to check with your individual carrier to activate international cell service. Cellular phones generally have good reception in the area if you are using one.
Tierra has a local phone used for the lodge needs and for emergencies. We can also call anywhere in Costa Rica for you if needed. If there is an emergency back home and a loved one needs to reach you, they can call the Tierra telephone number from 8 to 8 and we can come and get you for that call.
Will there be wifi at Tierra del Sueños?
Tierra offers Free WIFI to all guests. WIFI is available in the main lodge and eating area at all hours of the day. Do keep in mind though that the internet is not as reliable as other developed areas of the world and it is NOT in your bungalow.
What is the weather like in Costa Rica in January?
The local temperature averages 80-85 degrees year round. The climate has often been called a "micro-climate", implying that the variable factors affecting this region are independent from the rest of the neighboring areas.
This region shares very little in common with the rest of the country's weather cycles, as the rainy season (May-Nov) is often blessed with several weeks of dry, hot and sunny days, while tropical showers can be experienced during the summer season (Nov-April).
What should I pack?Be sure to plan for both the heat and rain. Sneakers and flip flops. The jungle loves to ruin leather so plastic footwear is better! Long pants for excursions, a light coat or sweater for those cooler evenings. A bathing suit, yoga apparel, umbrella, flash light, and your own personal hygiene and care products.
I have limited mobility; is this trip right for me?
Tierra is not a location that is accessible for wheelchairs; there are 2-3 steps leading to bungalows and the eating area. It is possible to navigate this trip with limited mobility. No part of our trip will require hiking (optional excursions may!), and the path to the beach is less than a mile walk.
If you have other accessibility needs, please let us know. We would love to accommodate you on this trip.
I have more questions!
